Pitch in an Elevator

I've decided to blog once more. Pick up the electronic pen and get some public opinionating done.

To aid me in my journey, I picked up "31 Days to Build a Better Blog". And Day 1 is all about the Elevator Pitch.

So, I took a glance up at the top of my webpage and it looks like I already have one:

"RANTS ABOUT POLITICAL ISSUES, OTHER STUFF IN GOVERNMENT, OPINION PIECES ON THE NEWS, AND OTHER WAYS OF COMBINING REAL NEWS WITH REAL IDEAS AND POINTING OUT REAL STUPIDITY WITH REAL HUMOR. THE TITLE IS BASED ON ONE OF MY MOST POPULAR RANTS ABOUT VEGETARIANS DESTROYING THE ENVIRONMENT AND HOW EATING STEAK CAN SAVE THE PLANET."

Okay, so I already have a BAD Elevator Pitch. Now it's time to take another look and see if I can shorten it and re-vamp it into something more meaningful...

I like the phrase "combining real news with real ideas and pointing out real stupidity with real humor". I think that's the central tenet of my blog. I think a notion I'd like to ADD is that I like to play Devil's Advocate sometimes. Not exactly in a "Stephen Colbert" type of way, where I have a persona or anything, but rather that I believe that there ARE multiple sides to every argument and multiple points of view that people may not be willing to see.

A good example of this is dedicated to my mom, who expresses some decent levels of road rage when a driver does "something stupid". This could be a last-minute lane change, not signaling to turn, or anything of the sort. To her, wrong is wrong and doing the wrong thing is stupid and therefore that driver must be stupid.

Well, then there are times when she gets horrible directions and has to make a last-minute lane change. Or she gets frustrated with a slow car and changes lanes to pass without signaling. Even though she's done "the wrong thing" and qualifies by her logic as "a stupid driver", she knows her own rationalizations.

She just sometimes refuses to accept that those other people have their own rationalizations, too.

That's what I want to do. I want to take the position that it seems the majority of the population has written off.

So how's this for a new Elevator Pitch?

"This blog tries to combine factual news with interesting opinions and dares to point out real stupidity with real humor. You might not agree with the opinions expressed here, but it'll do you some good to see things from a different perspective. You just might learn something new and acknowledge a different point of view. If you leave a comment, I just might do the same."

The shorter version:

"This blog tries to combine factual news with interesting opinions and dares to point out real stupidity with real humor."

Should I include the fact the the majority of my posts are about: Anti-PETA, Anti-Illegal-Immigration, and other Political Commentary? I also have random News Articles where I basically make fun of a study, the people in the article, or the author of the article itself - should I mention that?

What do you think? LEAVE ME A COMMENT!!

Hah! I should probably take a look at my "elevator pitch" as well.

I actually like the part of your tagline that you like best. "COMBINING REAL NEWS WITH REAL IDEAS AND POINTING OUT REAL STUPIDITY WITH REAL HUMOR." I think that's concise and to the point. You could put the other stuff in your blogger profile ("I like to play Devil's Advocate"), and put your profile in the sidebar.
